This has been my main distortion pedal for many years. It's an excellent pedal, has a wide range of tonal control which was missing from the original OD-1, so you can vary from slight to heavily distorted tones.   I think there are two manufacturers, Korean and Japanese, I think mine is the Japanese model, I don't think it makes much difference.   I would like to mention that I find the tone seems to vary depending on the power supply (I use Everready regulars, though I'm interested in whether others find a better battery choice - as the battery gets older, the tone seems to "sweeten" a little, it gets sort of "fat") flat = fat!!  I'd recommend this one over the OD-1 as it seems to have a better mix of harmonics, it will depend on amplifier. It's great for DI as the controls allow levelling as well as tonal control.  It has taken a lot of punishment over time. I use it mainly pre-effects rack and use a volume pedal before the SD-1 to get a little extra control for swell tones
