The John Myung Bass by Yamaha, model RBX JM2, is both solid and fast, featuring a sleek, two-octave maple neck with oval abalone inlays on the rosewood fingerboard and a punchy alder body. The active preamp accurately translates the massive attack of the custom Seymour Duncan SMB-6A pickup.
Dream Theater's intricate arrangements and unique sonic challenges call for an extraordinary musician on bass. With his 6-string RBXJM2 signature bass, John Myung meets the challenge. The John Myung Bass comes with black hardware which sets off both available finishes: Inca Silver and Plum Pearl metallic finish.
Regarded as a leader of progressive-rock bass playing, John Myung has helped steer Dream Theater through a sometimes turbulent career since their formation in the late ‘80s. He also showcases in a part-time project, Platypus, which includes guitarist and fellow Yamaha artist Ty Tabor.
Born in Chicago in 1967, John Myung moved as a young boy to Long Island, New York, where he still lives. A keen listener of classical music he took up the violin at the age of five, turning to bass when he was in his mid teens, drawing on the inspiration of players like Yes’s Chris Squire, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden and Rush’s Geddy Lee.
